Marc Newson has joined Apple’s design team under Jony Ive, according to a new report which was confirmed by Apple. The duo have previously worked together to create such products as a special edition red Mac Pro and a similar Lieca M camera, so it’s no surprise to see Newson officially join forces with his good friend at Cupertino. As quoted by Vanity Fair:
Newson also gave a statement on his new role, saying that he is “full of admiration and respect for the extraordinary design work that has been produced by Jony and the team at Apple.” He went on to say:
The duo appeared on Charlie Rose to talk design late last year
, providing more insight into the principles behind their design as well as their friendship.

Newson, for what it’s worth, has previously claimed that he “pre-dated the trend for large watches by about a decade” and has created several concepts and designs for watches of his own. Just something to keep in mind as we move closer and closer to an Apple-designed wearable.
